Canadian Physical Geography

Grade 5: How do Canada's different landforms, bodies of water, and natural resources affect quality of life around the country?

I would integrate a concept map into a grade 5 lesson on Canadian physical geography. After discussing and reflecting on how Canada's diverse landforms, bodies of water, and natural resources affect the quality of life of Canadians, students will prepare their own concept map illustrating their conclusions.  Students will start with the central concept of Canadian Physical Geography and will branch out with three topics: landforms, bodies of water, and natural resources. Branching out from these three topics will be images or words describing the factors that they believe are affected by that particular topic.

This activity would integrate several ICT outcomes:

C1: Students will access, use, and communicate information from a variety of technologies.
F6:Students will demonastrate a basic understanding of the operating skills required in a variety of technologies.
P2: Students will organize and manipulate data.
P3: Students will communicate through multimedia.

Inspiration is a wonderful program that offers a multitude of opportunities in the classroom. Whether the teacher is using it to present ideas to students in a visual format, or students are using it to organize and communicate their own ideas, Inspiration will be a positive addition to any learning environment.
