Math Flashcards

Multimedia Learning Object: Multimedia Math Flashcards for Kids.
Subject Area: Mathematics
Grade Level: Grade 2
Source:

Description of Multimedia Learning Object: This multimedia object contains a series of interactive flashcards. The level of difficulty can be adjusted for individual students, but the general premise involves simple addition and subtraction problems. This site also offers flashcards for multiplication, division, and a combination of all four mathematical equations, so it can even be used in later grades.

Description of integration idea: The way that I would incorporate this multimedia into the classroom would be as a support tool during a lesson on addition or subtraction. Instead of using regular flashcards, students can use these multimedia flashcards to sharpen their skills, gain more experience working with computers and multimedia, and to have a break from regular classroom lessons or worksheets.

This multimedia tool would help students achieve a Specific Learning Objective from the strand, Number Concepts, that states: Students will use manipulatives, diagrams, and symbols to demonstrate and describe the processes of addition and subtraction of numbers to 100.

Several ICT Outcomes would also be addressed:
- C.6: Students will use technology to investigate and/or solve problems, as students are using interactive flashcards to solve mathematical problems.
- F.3: Students will demonstrate a moral and ethical approach to the use of technology. The more that students work with and use technology in the classroom, the more comfortable they can become with computers and technology. By using this tool during math class, students are given an opportunity to demonstrate appropriate care of technological equipment, demonstrate courtesy and follow classroom procedures when making appropriate use of computer technologies, and to recognize and acknowledge ownership electronic material.

This multimedia tool will allow students to practice their mathematical skills in a different context. It allows them to gain a higher level of comfort with using computers and multimedia tools and offers a nice change of pace from regular worksheets.
